* The Sulphur, Louisiana native also had a front row start.

PALM BEACH, Florida (April 5, 2017) – The Sulphur, Louisiana driver Aaron Jeansonne clinched his first podium of the season, during the Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series opener at the 2.034-mile circuit of the Palm Beach International Raceway.

About his second place, the 18-year old driver said: "I had high expectations showing up at Palm Beach International Raceway. I was third fastest in the first practice session and a second place qualifying effort didn't quite meet my expectations. However, I was satisfied to start on the front row. In race 1 I took the lead early, but surrendered it shortly after. I maintained my second position for most of the race and eventually I’ve finished there.”

And he added: “On day 2 I calmed my approach. I had made a lot of improvement from the previous day, while being second quickest in practice. My pace was much faster. Nevertheless, the track heated for qualifying and all I could manage was a third place starting position. I was satisfied with this as well.”

“I started directly behind the pole sitter and took second coming out of Turn 2. I took the lead early again, but this time I held on to it for most of the race. While I was on the defensive, perhaps we pushed the boundaries a bit too far. I made a slight contact with another car, which resulted in a 35-second penalty. Knowing my race was over; towards the end I pushed over the limit and locked the brakes, causing the car to spin. Overall I am proud to have opened the season with a podium, and I expect to show more consistency as the year goes on," the aircraft mechanic at Northrop Grumman in Lake Charles, Louisiana said.

The Lucas Oil Formula Car Race Series calendar comprises 14 races in seven tracks across the country, with monthly race weekends from April through November except September and the season finale will be held at the NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans on November 11-12. Road Atlanta will be hosting Round 2 on May 2-3.

TV broadcast team announced

The FIA World Endurance Championship is delighted to announce that one of the modern greats of endurance racing, Allan McNish, will be a key part of its refreshed broadcast team for 2017.
The former Audi Sport driver retired from the cockpit at the end of 2013, and has since used his decades of experience, natural charm and communication skills to become an in-demand expert commentator and analyst for the BBC and Sky Sports in the UK, SPEED TV in the USA and Star TV across Asia.
Allan McNish, who will be at 6 WEC rounds, will be joined in the commentary booth by two extremely experienced, well-respected, and multi-discipline commentators who will, between them, cover all eight rounds of the WEC – the 24 Hours of Le Mans broadcast package being a separate entity.
Toby Moody is a British sports broadcaster who has commentated extensively on both two and four-wheeled world championships, and who brings with him decades of experience and skills in live event, play-by-play presentation. In 2015 he covered the WEC season for Quest TV in the UK, and for this season will cover the 6 Hours of Silverstone, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring and the 6 Hours of Bahrain.
The voice of Briton Martin Haven will be well-known to endurance fans far and wide as he has covered endurance racing for the last 20 years for broadcasters in Europe and the USA, particularly for Eurosport at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His love of motorsport and the passionate way in which he conveys that is evident in his commentary, and his experience covers many motorsport disciplines plus winter sports. Martin will cover the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, 6 Hours of Mexico, 6 Hours of COTA, 6 Hours of Fuji and 6 Hours of Shanghai.
The team will be fully supported from the pits and paddock by WEC regular Louise Beckett who returns to the championship for the fifth year and whose cool, unruffled presence brings real added value to the broadcast team.
As well as covering the whole of the European Le Mans Series, Graham Goodwin will also be part of this new commentary team, and will be present to strengthen the WEC TV broadcasts throughout the 2017 season.
Gérard Neveu, CEO of the WEC: “We believe that one of the reasons for the WEC’s current success in today’s motorsport world is that we try not to rest on our laurels; we are always looking to innovate and re-energise the championship in every area.
“John Hindhaugh, who has been our lead commentator until now, has decided to return to his first love of radio commentary, and we want to thank him for the great job he has done, and for his contribution to the championship. We are sure we will have an opportunity to work together again in the future but, for this year, we are very enthusiastic about our new broadcast team and the season ahead.”
The experts’ commentaries cover the qualifying session and entire 6-hours of racing for each event, and can be found on the FIAWEC App and live on the new WEC website which will be launched at the 6 Hours of Silverstone.

Why does Switzerland produce such great racing drivers?

Sixty-one years is a long time from anyone’s viewpoint, but in Switzerland it must feel like an eternity. Motorsport has been banned there since 84 people lost their lives at Le Mans in 1955, but that hasn’t stopped this small country producing some of the world’s most talented sportscar drivers.
In 2016, Porsche’s Neel Jani became the third Swiss driver to win the FIA World Endurance Drivers Championship, following in the footsteps of Marcel Fässler for Audi in 2012 and Toyota driver Sébastien Buemi in 2014. They were joined on the grid this year by Simon Trummer (27), Mathéo Tuscher (20), Alexandre Imperatori (29), Mathias Beche (30) and Joel Camathias (35), with only the UK, France and Germany producing more drivers who participated in at least two rounds of the WEC. So what is their secret?

A meeting of the FIA World Motorsport Council was held today in Vienna, Austria. At this occasion the creation of the FIA World Endurance Championship for GTE Drivers and Manufacturers title was announced for 2017.
As a reminder, four manufacturers - Ferrari, Aston Martin, Ford and Porsche - are already entered in the WEC.
Pierre Fillon (President of the ACO): "I would like to warmly thank Jean Todt, President of the FIA and Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, President of the FIA Endurance Commission, for their total involvement in obtaining this title. I would like also to acknowledge the efforts made by the manufacturers and their sporting performances that fully justify this world title label.”
Gérard Neveu (CEO of the FIA WEC): "The announcement of this world title is excellent news for the WEC and rewards a grid of the highest quality. This decision should speed up the arrival of other manufacturers to this category.”

The FIA World Endurance Championship delivered two races in Asia of exceptional intensity, drama and excitement, but the final round of the 2016 championship at Bahrain International Circuit on Saturday 19 November is likely to be as passion-filled and emotional as any experienced.
Porsche secured its second consecutive World Endurance Manufacturers Championship with a dominant display from current World Champions Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley in China, but its drivers Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb will definitely be looking for a stronger run than they have had in Fuji and Shanghai in order to secure the Drivers’ title.
The LMP2 title was joyously clinched in Shanghai by French team Signatech Alpine, a fourth place finish being all that was required, while the LMP1 Private Team title has been in Rebellion Racing’s pocket since Fuji. However, the LMGTE Pro and Am championships are still wide open between drivers from Ferrari, Aston Martin and Ford, as is the coveted FIA World Endurance Cup for GT Manufacturers.
As in China, 31 cars will be on the grid for the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain for the third WEC round which runs into darkness. The always-impressive Bahrain International Circuit at Sakhir is slightly different to Le Mans and COTA though as 5000 lights illuminate the 5.412km track, turning night into daylight.
Aside from the top level WEC action, there is a comprehensive support race package from the Porsche GT3 Cup an MRF Challenge. However, much attention will undoubtedly fall in Bahrain on names synonymous with motorsport and endurance racing, names which are due to leave the WEC at the end of this season – Audi Sport and Mark Webber of Porsche.
It’s going to be joyous, tense, emotional and a celebration of the very best of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Don’t miss it!
