Multiple E-Prix winner joins the Monegasque marque as Deputy Team Principal
ROKiT Venturi Racing announced the addition of Jérôme D’Ambrosio to the team, as he takes on the role of Deputy Team Principal based at the team’s headquarters in Monaco.
Reporting to Team Principal, Susie Wolff, Jérôme brings a wealth of motorsport experience to the team having contested every Formula E race since the series began in 2014.
The move signifies the 34-year-old Belgian former Formula 1 driver’s formal retirement from competitive driving.
Jérôme D’Ambrosio, Deputy Team Principal, ROKiT Venturi Racing:
“My experience as a driver over the past 26 years has undeniably shaped me as a person and, when I decided after Berlin to hang up my helmet, I knew I wanted to stay involved in motorsport in some capacity. I’m still a very competitive person. That hunger to win doesn’t leave you when you decide to step out of the car, and I want to put that passion to good use. When Susie and I started talking about potentially taking my first step into a management role, I knew in my gut that the opportunity was perfect for me. It’s time for a new challenge and I have a lot to learn, but I know that I’ll be learning from one of the best and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead. I want to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to my family, to my friends and also to my fans for the incredible support and help throughout my career as a driver and also now on this next adventure. Their continued and unwavering belief has meant the world to me.”
Susie Wolff, Team Principal, ROKiT Venturi Racing:
“When I took on the role of Team Principal in July 2018, one of my main areas of focus was to ensure that we have the right people in the right roles. Understandably, as we evolve as a team, our needs change and grow. Jérôme taking on the role of Deputy Team Principal will serve to strengthen the team - he will play a pivotal role with our drivers and engineering team and act as my right hand in Monaco. I know what it’s like to hang up your helmet and I also know how important the next move is at any pivotal stage of a person’s career. Like Jérôme, I’m someone who follows their gut instincts and I think that we’ll make a fantastic team moving forward.”
The latest episode of WEC Talk is here and this week we explore the highs and the lows of one the most highly-anticipated events in the global motorsport calendar: the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 12th instalment of the official FIA World Endurance Championship podcast starts with a three-way interview with Le Mans’ LMGTE Pro category winners: Aston Martin Racing’s Alex Lynn, Harry Tincknell and Maxime Martin. We also hear from LMP2 category winner Filipe Albuquerque and finish with an interview from Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Technical Director, Pascal Vasselon.
Highlighting the typical busy schedule of a racing driver, Tincknell spoke moments before he boarded a flight at Heathrow while Martin chatted with WEC Talk’s host Martin Haven direct from the Nurburgring. Lynn credited the reliability and performance of the Aston Martin Vantage AMR in helping the trio triumph at Le Mans.
The Briton took up the story: “One thing I really want to stress is that we had less power than what we were given pre-qualifying last year and so the improvement from the car in only 12 months is staggering. That is thanks to a lot of hard work and intelligence from the AMR and Prodrive team. It was an intense race, I can assure you and we drove it to the limit on every lap.”
Next, Haven spoke to United Autosports’ driver Filipe Albuquerque who entered the record books last weekend as the first Portuguese driver to win at Le Mans.
Albuquerque explained: “As a Portuguese driver, winning [Le Mans] is a huge thing. On Monday evening, I even got a call from the Portuguese President congratulating me! He congratulated me for the great success and for winning a trophy Portugal has never won before. It’s just huge for me and for the country... Actually, I can’t understand how Tom Kristensen won it nine times - it’s just so hard!”
In the third and final part of this week’s WEC Talk, Toyota’s Technical Director Pascal Vasselon chatted about the Japanese squad’s third consecutive win at Le Mans and gave an interesting insight into the team’s preparation ahead of next season including updates about the team’s brand-new Hypercar…

What the WEC drivers said post Le Mans
LMP1: Sébastien Buemi – No. 8 Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota TS050 Hybrid
“I am feeling great after winning Le Mans for the third time. My team-mates have done an amazing job. We really tried to prepare ourselves well in the last three weeks, spending a lot of time in Cologne driving the simulator to try and find some small tricks as we’ve been here with this car for many years. To get better is never really easy, so we pushed hard and I’m very proud of them.
“Once again it shows that the luck can turn here in Le Mans because when we started the race, I had the feeling that everything was against us – slow zone, puncture, problem with the brakes. Then all of a sudden things started to go well and we found ourselves leading the race and winning by five laps. You never know until the race is over.”

The discerning readers of the most-circulated newspaper in the United States, USA Today, have voted the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in a fan poll as the No.1 motorsports event in North America.
The Sebring International Raceway event was one of 20 racing events nominated by a panel of experts for the month-long online competition and Sebring came out top thanks to the passion and support of the fans. In the previous two USA Today 10Best competitions – 2015 and 2017 – the Sebring endurance classic finished sixth and fourth respectively.
Gérard Neveu, CEO of the WEC, commented: “Many congratulations to Sebring International Raceway and to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for this honour. It is a further, positive recognition of this fantastic event which we are sure will only help to increase the attraction of the coming Super Sebring in March 2020. The WEC is very honoured to be part of this unique motorsport celebration, which is excellent for the appeal and significance of sportscars in North America. The nomination by USA Today, and especially this vote from the fans, is real recognition of the hard work done by the IMSA program throughout the whole season.”
Following the successful conclusion of all post-race technical checks, the results for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2019, the final round of the 2018-2019 WEC Super Season, have now been officially confirmed.
President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), Pierre Fillon, took the opportunity of the third round of the European Le Mans Series and the WEC Prologue in Barcelona to present trophies to the two teams classified in 1st and 2nd places in the LMGTE Am category.
In light of the disqualification of Keating Motorsports for technical irregularities, the No.56 Team Project 1 Porsche was promoted to first place and the No.84 JMW Motorsport Ferrari to second. These two teams are competing in the ELMS’s 4 Hours of Barcelona, with Team Project 1 remaining in Spain for the WEC’s official pre-Season 8 test, the Prologue (23/24 July).
6 March 2019, Monaco – Following Edoardo MORTARA’s third place podium finish in Mexico City, VENTURI Formula E Team heads to the fifth round of the 2018-2019 Formula E Championship in Hong Kong this week in strong spirits. With a break from the usual Saturday race format, this weekend sees the race action take place on Sunday 10th March.
SKYSCRAPERS AND SEASCAPES
The 1.860 km street circuit nestles between the stunning Victoria Bay and the impressive skyscraper-studded Hong Kong skyline. Formula E enjoys huge popularity in this territory, not only with fans but also with the motorsport fraternity who really look forward to this leg of the championship.
Featuring a more traditional track layout, the Hong Kong circuit presents a different proposition from the last race in Mexico City. With a noticeably short and winding track configuration, a strong qualifying performance will be more crucial than ever to a successful race in Hong Kong. Added to these challenges, the initial weather forecasts indicate that there is a chance of rain on Sunday 10 March which will no doubt add to the on-track action.
GOOD VIBRATIONS
Edoardo MORTARA makes his return to Hong Kong having just clocked up his second podium finish in Formula E (third place in Mexico). His first podium and second place in a race came in Hong Kong in December 2017 - so the Swiss-Italian driver is more motivated than ever to put in a solid performance.
Felipe MASSA, who qualified in third place on the grid in Mexico City, is looking forward to his premiere lap of the Hong Kong track. MASSA, like his teammate, has been spending plenty of time between the races in the simulator in order to familiarise himself with the track and to work on energy management strategies.
QUOTES
“I’m going into this race calmly and very focused on my preparations. We’re coming off the back of two good results, and we’re heading in the right direction. The team is ultra-determined. Now we just have to hope everything goes well over the weekend. I’m looking forward to getting back out on the track.” Edoardo MORTARA, VENTURI Formula E Team driver
“This will be my first time visiting Hong Kong. I can’t wait to get there, especially as I know I have a lot of fans there. I’ve familiarised myself with the track in the simulator, in order to be as ready as possible on race day. We’ve come a long way since Santiago and the team dynamic is very good - this weekend we’ll continue to push and we hope to have the best race possible.” Felipe MASSA, VENTURI Formula E Team driver
“Round four in Mexico was a highlight for VENTURI and a very proud moment for me as Team Principal, the team worked enormously hard for that result. Following a successful in-season test day in Mexico we returned to Monaco with our focus fixed firmly on preparing for Hong Kong and the drivers and team have been hard at work maintaining the momentum from Mexico. This weekend, I want to see us continue to improve and showcase the capabilities of both our drivers and the reliability of the car.” Susie WOLFF, VENTURI Formula E Team Principal
Free practice, qualifying and the race itself will take place over the course of a single day, Sunday 10 March 2019. To keep up with all the action, follow VENTURI Formula E Team on Twitter: @VenturiFE.
Following the recently announced driver changes at Rebellion Racing and SMP Racing, the latest provisional entry list for the 1000 Miles of Sebring shows that the field is now nearly complete.
Just three ‘TBA’ places are yet to be filled on the provisional entry list: the third drivers for Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK in LMGTE Pro and the final place in the No.77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR alongside Julien Andlauer and Matt Campbell in GTE Am.
The Dempsey-Proton team has confirmed that the father-son Roda duo, Gianluca and Giorgio, will once again make it an all-Italian line up in the No.88 Porsche with Porsche factory driver Matteo Cairoli leading the way.
Withdrawn from the race is the No.4 ByKolles Racing Team’s ENSO CLM P1/01 Nismo so the final number of cars to start the 1000 Miles of Sebring at 4:00 pm on Friday 15 March will therefore be 34.
Super Season Finale: First look at 24 Hours of Le Mans entry list
The ACO has today revealed a first look at the entry list for the 24 Hours of Le Mans (15-16 June) which features 34 full-season WEC competitors.
The final round of the 2018-2019 Super Season will be unique for many reasons, not least because it will be the first time that an FIA WEC season – itself unique in being 14-months long – has ended at the world’s greatest endurance race. It is the second time that the 24 Hours of Le Mans has featured in the Super Season, and today the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) revealed a first look at the entry list which includes 34 full season WEC entrants.
Among these will be the teams and drivers to be crowned as FIA World Endurance Champions. In addition to the 34 WEC entries are 8 further competitors who received an ‘invitation’ as a result of their success either at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2018, in the 2018 European Le Mans Series or 2018 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. A further four automatic invitations will be issued to the winners of the 2018-19 Asian Le Mans Series, the final round of which is on 24th February.
