To mark World Environment Day this Friday, 5 June, Mahindra Racing is extending its Season 6 tree planting initiative to the ABB Formula E Race At Home Challenge. The Race at Home Challenge sees Formula E drivers compete in an esports competition during the red flag period of racing due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ahead of Season 6, the team announced that for every FANBOOST vote received by the team’s drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Jérôme D’Ambrosio will convert into a tree planted; meaning fans have a direct positive impact on the environment by voting.

Now, as part of this initiative, for every viewer tuning into Twitch at www.twitch.com/fiaformulae for the Race At Home Challenge finale weekend on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June starting at 3:30pm BST, Mahindra Racing will plant a tree with a commitment of up to half a million trees.

The initiative is a measure that Mahindra Racing is taking as it continually strives to make positive changes for the environment. A full mature tree can provide a year long oxygen supply to a family of four and can absorb as much as 48 pounds of CO2 per year.

Mahindra Racing was the first, and remains the only, Formula E team to achieve FIA Sustainability Accreditation. The squad first successfully attained its two star rating in November 2016 and, following a periodic audit in February 2019, Mahindra Racing maintained its status in the framework, with the aim of being carbon neutral by 2020.

The team is committed to the FIA environmental certification programme by minimising its environmental impact and working towards achieving carbon neutrality. It also takes learnings from advanced technologies in its race car to apply it to its road cars within its Race to Road initiative, developing and promoting more sustainable transportation solutions.

How LMP1 was won:  Porsche's parting shot

As Porsche LMP Team departed the WEC with a third successive sweep of the FIA World Endurance Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships, a look at how the titles were won reveals that a typically dramatic Le Mans 24 Hours proved to be, as so often, the decisive point.
Victory in the double points endurance classic, after the heart-breaking demise of its sister car in the closing stages, turned the tables in favour of the No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber who wrapped up the Championships in China with a round to spare.

How LMP2 was won: Vaillante Rebellion down to the wire

2017 marked the beginning of a brave new era for LMP2, but the teams at the front needed no introduction, as Vaillante Rebellion snatched the FIA World Endurance Trophy for LMP2 Drivers from long-time points leaders Jackie Chan DC Racing.
With all full-season entrants campaigning Gibson-engined ORECA 07s, driver performance, team strategy and car setup would make all the difference and it was the Anglo-Swiss Rebellion squad that ultimately found the best balance across the three in its first season in the LMP2 category.

Ferrari proved once again to be the team to beat in 2017. The Prancing Horse has this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship taken a fifth FIA GT Manufacturers title in six years, a first FIA GT Drivers title (the first to be awarded as a world championship title), a fifth victory of the season in today’s 6 Hours of Bahrain, and for AF Corse, a fourth GTE Pro Teams Trophy since 2012.

The No.71 Ferrari 488 GTE of Sam Bird and Davide Rigon was presented with the win in the LMGTE Pro class by their team mates James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi in the No.51 who clinched the GT FIA World Endurance Championship title. The Champions established a strong lead through the race which, although pushed hard by the No.67 Ford GT and their team mates, was never bettered. The pass by the No.71 for the lead was in the dying moments of the race.
The No.67 Ford GT of Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell, which had been in championship contention going into the final round of the season, finished third after being delayed by a slow pit stop but never really having the pace of the Italian cars. The No.91 Porsche 911 RSR of Frederic Makowiecki and Richard Lietz had been in contention earlier in the race, but dropped back in the final third and eventually finished fourth in class.

Aston Martin claim top honours in LMGTE Am as Vantage bows out

The two LMGTE Pro Aston Martin entries may not have been able to challenge for a win today, but in GTE Am, Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Mathias Lauda gave the venerable Aston Martin Vantage the best possible send off by winning and securing the FIA World Endurance Trophies for GTE Am Teams and Drivers.
It was the trio’s fourth victory of the season, but their consistency and seven pole positions also added to their points’ tally. Farewell then to the Vantage, and welcome to its 2018 replacement which will be revealed by Aston Martin next week in London.
Second in Am was the No.61 Clearwater Racing entry of Matt Griffin, Keita Sawa and Weng Sun Mok who led home the Ferrari 488 GTE of Spirit of Race for the final podium position.

Ferrari clinches the GT FIA World Endurance Manufacturers Championship as Ford takes win in Shanghai after epic duel

Ford take win after epic duel; Ferrari seals GT Manufacturers’ title Ford scored a hard-fought victory at the 6 Hours of Shanghai today as Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell claimed their second LMGTE Pro win of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship season. In doing so, the British duo thrust themselves back into championship contention in their No.67 Ford Ganassi Team UK Ford GT.
Priaulx and Tincknell finished ahead of the No.91 Porsche 911 RSR of Frédéric Makowiecki and Richard Lietz, and claimed a second win in as many years at the Shanghai International Circuit. An enthusiastic crowd of 58,000 spectators over the weekend at Shanghai International Circuit saw a memorable event and went home having witnessed an incredible race which was full of action, drama and tension.
The win came after Tincknell performed a heroic rear-guard action when he came under intense pressure from the Porsche in the fifth hour. When Lietz’s 911 RSR was hit by the No.7 Toyota, driven at the time by José Maria Lopez, it freed up Tincknell and he brought the car home to claim the maximum points haul.
Ferrari’s third and sixth place finishes in the class were enough to seal the GT FIA World Endurance Manufacturers’ Championship for the Prancing Horse, the No.51 Ferrari 488 GTE of Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado taking the final podium place today.
The GT Drivers’ Championship will not be settled until the final race at Bahrain in two weeks’ time but today’s result in Shanghai sees Calado and Pier Guidi’s lead diminished as the consistent Makowiecki and Lietz axis scored a remarkable sixth podium points score of the season. The gap is now just two points between the two pairs.
One of the two non-finishers in the race was the No.92 of Michael Christensen and Kevin Estre which suffered the cruel blow of an engine failure in the third hour while in the lead of the GTE field.

Aston Martin takes dominant victory in LMGTE Am

The LMGTE Am category will go also down to the wire in Bahrain as the No.98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage V8 of Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy took a third win of the season and a 10-point lead in the championship.
Gulf Racing UK took their best ever WEC result with Ben Barker, Nick Foster and Khaled Al Qubaisi – subbing for team owner/driver Mike Wainwright - combining to take second position in the No.86 Porsche 911 RSR.
The Dempsey Proton Racing run Porsche was third after it recovered from contact with an LMP2 car in the opening hour. Christian Ried, Marvin Dienst and Matteo Cairoli therefore still keep in touch with the Aston Martin trio as the 2017 season reaches its conclusion at the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain in two weeks’ time.
The race into the night will be on Saturday 18th November.
