Venice, September 6, 2020. We conclude the first week of this 77th Venice International Film Festival by hosting two daughters of art at the Corradi Cinema Lounge.
The first is Gia Coppola, who with her grandfather Francis Ford behind her inevitably feels cinema running through her veins. In her film “Mainstream”, the director also wants to show herself as a daughter of her time and talks about the dictatorship of social networks, the cultural dimension of our time. The second is Romola Garai, younger daughter of the philosopher Karl Marx in the film “Miss Marx”. In the role of Eleonor, born in London in 1855, she feels like a citizen of the world, too: in fact she is actively involved in contributing to the birth of trade unions and opposing child labor. Remembered as a skilled speaker, she is considered one of the first women to join feminist demands with socialist ones. Also present at the lounge was director Susanna Nicchiarelli, who with her film competes for the prize Leone d’oro, along with four other Italian films. To underline the presence of value of female figures, another director: Peter Marcias, director of "Nilde Lotti, the time of women", told us about the story of a great Italian woman of the twentieth century, who with her political passion and her great civic sense has motivated the female universe to be recognized for their own value and the rights that they are entitled to. Our guest also Nick Vivarelli, a point of reference in world film criticism. Variety correspondent from Italy and the Middle East, this time he ventured behind the camera with “Life as a B-movie”, a documentary that will be broadcast tomorrow night on Sky Arte. To end the day, we made a connection with Caetano Veloso, Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist who, despite his physical distance, wanted to make his contribution to the Venice festival from his homeland and talk about the film "Narciso Em Fèrias", which sees him as an interpreter of himself. In fact, the documentary traces the memories and reflections of the artist during his period of detention, arrested 50 years ago without receiving explanations from the dictatorial regime, and sheds light on the arbitrary brutality that characterized that chapter of Brazilian history. Cinema23 anunció los nominados para la cuarta edición del Premio iberoamericano de cine Fénix®, que se entregará el próximo 6 de diciembre de 2017 en el Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris, en la Ciudad de México. La ceremonia se transmitirá en vivo y en directo por televisión a todo el continente americano a través de E! Entertainment Television, Studio Universal, Canal 52MX y Cinelatino y contará con repeticiones en otros canales como Canal 13 Paraguay, Canal 66 de Mexicali y Canal 44 de Ciudad Juárez. Además, este año el público podrá seguir la ceremonia de premiación vía streaming a través de premiosfenix.com, sopitas.com y msn.com.
En conferencia de prensa realizada en el Museo Franz Mayer, estuvieron presentes: Rodrigo Peñafiel, presidente de los Premios Fénix, presentó a las actrices mexicanas Irene Azuela y Johanna Murillo, ambas integrantes de Cinema23, quienes dieron a conocer los largometrajes y series nominadas de este año.
Las nominaciones de los Premios Fénix son el resultado de varios procesos. En primer lugar, se realiza una depuración por país de más de 800 largometrajes llevada a cabo por un comité conformado por críticos, programadores, directores de festivales y académicos. Después, ellos mismos trabajan sobre esta preselección para establecer las nominaciones. Posteriormente, un grupo de especialistas por área avala este trabajo. Todos los que participan en estos procesos son integrantes de Cinema23.
20 ficciones y 9 documentales participarán en las categorías de Largometraje de ficción, Dirección, Actuación masculina, Actuación femenina, Guion, Fotografía, Edición, Diseño de arte, Sonido, Música, Vestuario, Largometraje documental y Fotografía documental.
Por primera vez, los Premios Fénix reconocerán a las series hechas en Iberoamérica. Para este proceso, se contó con 51 series elegibles, de las cuales 13 resultaron nominadas en las categorías de Serie de Drama, Comedia y Ensamble actoral.
Adicionalmente, se entregarán tres premios especiales: el Premio Fénix al Trabajo Crítico; el Premio Fénix de los Exhibidores, que por primera vez incluirá el voto del público para su valoración, y el Premio Fénix a la Trayectoria. Los detalles de estos premios se darán a conocer en el marco del 15º Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia el próximo 22 de octubre.
Por segunda ocasión, los premios estarán acompañados de la Semana Fénix, del 2 al 9 de diciembre en la Ciudad de México. Además, Cinema23 y Premios Fénix presentarán diversas actividades abiertas al público durante el Mercado, Industria, Cine y el Audiovisual 2017 (MICA), evento que se llevará a cabo del 7 al 10 de diciembre en la Cineteca Nacional.

Japan Now: Muses of Japanese Cinema

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is pleased to announce that we will be highlighting the work of four iconic actresses in this year’s Japan Now section. This is one of the special programs planned to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Sakura ANDO, Yu AOI, Hikari MITSUSHIMA and Aoi MIYAZAKI have been chosen as the Muses of Japanese Cinema in honor of the powerful sparks they generate on screen, their collaborations with renowned directors and their increasing international stature.
TIFF is also pleased to unveil striking anniversary visuals by creative director Hiroshi SASAKI and art director Akihiro HAMABE — who served as the creative supervisor and chief art director, respectively, of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics performance at the Rio closing ceremony — in collaboration with acclaimed photographer and film director Mika NINAGAWA, known for her brightly colored photographs.
The 30th TIFF will take place from October 25 - November 3, 2017 at Roppongi Hills and other venues in Tokyo.

*** Ruta Mx, Cinema México 2017, tiene como objetivo dar a conocer los estrenos nacionales de este año, que han recibido estímulos y apoyos de la Secretaría de Cultura y el Imcine
Por primera ocasión y con la finalidad de difundir y promover con antelación los lanzamientos de las películas mexicanas, el próximo martes 31 de enero la Cineteca Nacional será sede de la primera Ruta Mx, Cinema México 2017, evento organizado por la Secretaría de Cultura, a través del Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (Imcine).
Ruta Mx, Cinema México 2017, presentará a partir de las 9:30 horas, secuencias de largometrajes, tanto de documental, como de ficción y de animación, con el objetivo de dar a conocer a exhibidores, distribuidores y medios de comunicación los estrenos nacionales de 2017, que cuentan con estímulos y apoyos de la Secretaría de Cultura y el Imcine.
Esta iniciativa nace con la intención de crear una red de contactos -entre productores, distribuidores, exhibidores y prensa- que permita generar un diálogo para impulsar mejores condiciones, en salas comerciales, de las producciones nacionales que estrenen durante el año en curso.
