The second day of Fashion Futurum international conference held during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia started with the panel discussion about local and global protection of intellectual property.Speakers were Maxim Dyshluk, Director Legal, Intellectual Property Depositary (Russia), and Alberto Crivelli, Partner, AMTF Avvocati (Italy). Evgeny Pen, CEO, Intellectual Property Depositary (Russia), moderated the discussion.
Ludmila Novoselova, Chairman of Intellectual Rights Court, Doctor of Law (Russia), proceeded to speak about “Brand Protection Measures” during her public talk. The brand should consider its legal protection measures at the very early stages of development. Partial or complete design copying, infringing goods, emergency substitution of a recognizable brand’s name – all these problems can be avoided. The Court is unlikely to oblige the respondent to cover your losses, as these are hard to confirm and to assess, but you can be recompensed. You could also claim unfair competition. Legal deposition will help to uniquely determine your authorship. There are systems for trademarks registration in the legal environment of the Russian Federation, the European Union and in the international field.
The yesterday lecture on investing into fashion was continued by Jeffry Aronsson, Founder & CEO, Aronsson Group LLC (USA), and Alexander Galitsky, Co-founder and Managing Partner, Almaz Capital Partners (Russia). Investments into venturous start-ups doesn’t attract everyone, but such projects can turn successful in the fashion industry, as this market is fast growing and changing. More cautious investors consider how fast can growth rates be in a specific segment, how authors of a start-up see their place in the system. It also matters if the start-up can produce a high-quality product that will attract the audience, in particular, the global audience. And naturally, whenever investors consider a start-up, they will look at its perspectives: if the brand’s boundaries can be extended, if other types of products can be produced under the collective mark etc.
The lecture was followed by a public talk about «IT Solutions and Mobile Apps for Fashion Brands: Is It a Game Changer for Fashion Business»Eddie Mullon, CEO of Launchmetrics, Founder of Fashion GPS , told about the challenges in the fashion world and the importance of IT-technologies in regard to the fashion industry development. Fashion GPS collects data both online and offline, proceeds and analyzes them, and finally assesses efficiency of a certain designer. This allows to orchestrate things in properly and to provide the maximum possible impact on the audience of interest. New tools help to solve most of the challenges and enhance performance.
In the conference room there was the panel discussion on ethical fashion. Among the participants of the panel discussion were Giusy Bettoni, CEO, C.L.A.S.S. Eco Textile Library (Italy); Piia Lehtinen, President of the Board, Design District Helsinki (Finland); Marina Kokorina, President, RusEcoModa (Russia).Covadonga O’Shea, Founder, ISEM Fashion Business School, moderated the session. The speakers reported on the importance of sustainable fashion, explained why nature resources have to be preserved. Marina Kokorina noted that there are companies in Russia that collect textile for recycling. “People that care about the environment think globally”, she emphasized. Giusy Bettoni remarked that fashion should be as transparent as possible, that supply chains need to be traceable, that all wishes of the customers should be accounted for. The speakers invited everyone concerned about eco-fashion to attend the eco-friendly fashion days that are to be held on June 28 to July 2.
Karim Rashid, designer (USA), spoke about the future of design. Today fashion has nothing to do with aesthetical clichés, it is all about novelty and functionality. You should consider your project, assess it critically. By making some product we create a reference that designers are going to use in the future. It is necessary to fit into the new environment, to use Internet technologies, 3D printing and other progressive tools. Designers should also consider their objectives as creators. As soon as they know the answer, it will be easier for them to find their unique style that their target audience will accept.
The panel discussion “Technology as the Driver for Fashion Start-up Success” was participated byMarvin Liao, Partner at 500 Startups (USA), Amanda Parkes, Chief of Technology & Research, Manufacture NY (USA), Eddie Mullon, CEO of Launchmetrics, Founder of Fashion GPS. In their presentations the speakers demonstrated the existing wearable technologies, disposable clothes and footwear, the Fashion GPS system that allows to gather statistics, show the necessary experts and images with barcodes. The speakers concurred that the financial chain is to be changed, starting from its very first links, that it is development of source materials should be invested in. Konstantine Karczmarski, Advisor to Innovations Department, ITMO University (Russia), who moderated the discussion, questioned the discussion participants about the things making innovative start-ups grow and succeed. Normally the projects that manage to succeed have a well-balanced team, a good view of their audience and possible partners, and a customer acquisition system. It is important to bring an innovative project to the market, when the demand for it has been outlined.
“The Cross-Border Market Opportunity: Today’s Growth Rocket” – this was the subject discussed byAnna Klinskova, Vice-President Sales and Marketing, DHL Express (Russia), and Oksana Shpitalnikova,Head of Customs Operations, DHL Express (Russia). Every year the e-commerce market is increased by 1/4, which makes it highly perspective. However, Web stores and applications should meet the customer’s needs. Express delivery, convenient and user-friendly interface can push up sales. The only documents needed for export are customs declarations.
Carlos Espinosa de Los Monteros, High Government Commissioner for the Spain Brand (Spain), participated in the public talk “The Winning Model of Spanish Fashion Industry”. The public talk was moderated by Alexey Bajenov, Founder, Be-in.ru (Russia). There are several principles of successful business. The first one is to consider the customer as the lever of the fashion industry engine, the second one is the timescale. If the designer want to use resources properly, times spent for any production processes are to be reduced. Carlos Espinosa noted that many people with different income can afford the Spanish fashion, and in his opinion, that was yet another reason why the Spanish brands are popular.
The discussion «Only Designers Will Remain: the Future of Fashion is About Creativity» was participated by Vladimir Philippov, Deputy Head of Department of Culture, Moscow Government (Russia),Karim Rashid, designer (USA), Princess Beatrice D’Orleans, President of the Spanish Luxury Association, Ambassador of Dior (Spain), and Dmitry Peskov, Director,  Young Professionals, ASI (Russia). Alexander Shumsky, Executive President, Russian Fashion Council (Russia), moderated the discussion.
Karim Rashid and Princess Beatrice proclaimed the paramount role of creativity in the designer’s business. The matter of the person responsible for the fashion problem is critical, but supervising works at every stage will reduce the time associated with the creative process itself. Vladimir Philippov remarked that it is important to offer financial support to young brands and that investments in innovative technologies are perspective. Alexander Shumsky and the speakers expressed their confidence that technical production modernization will allow the designers to concentrate on their creative activities.
The discussion "Upgrading Traditional Retail: Creating a Fluid Shopping Experience" was participated by Michael Burke, Head of Industry, Fashion, Sports & Toys, Google (USA); Scott Emmons, Head of the Innovation Lab, Neiman Marcus (USA); Alla Verber, Vice-President, Mercury Russia, Fashion Director, TSUM Department Store (Russia); Anna Klinskova, Vice-President Sales and Marketing, DHL Express (Russia), andArina Slynko, Deputy General Director Federal Center for Light Industry, Director, All-Russia Forum on Light Industry, Ministry of Industry and Trade (Russia). The speakers discussed the general situation in the fashion market and considered how the customer’s demands change and develop retail. Arina Slynko said, “The experts say that millenials are going to influence the consumption model changing”. Alla Verber agreed with that and said that the generation change caused the sales system change – many turn to Internet, and that’s why we can consider buying luxury staff directly from home. If we talk about TSUM, according to the expert opinion, total value of online sales is only 5% from the general turnover. “I don’t think our nation has been satisfied with the purchasing opportunities”, Alla Verber emphasized. “I am sure that we all love buying things and trying them on in the stores. We’ll need 20 years more for an absolutely new generation to grow up and for the consumption system to change”. In general, all speakers agreed that the offer should be adopted in accordance with the customer’s needs and should offer them conditions with as simple and clear communication between the supplier and the consumer.
Gary Stewart, Director of Wayra (UK) talked to the visitors of the conference about “Acceleration Models for the Fashion Industry”. Gary demonstrated how technologies can simplify communication with the customer. His company develops the artificial intelligence that will discover target audiences. If you have a start-up, you need to understand how you can attract the customers, how you are different from the others, to see your strengths. The speakers believe that cooperation with large brands interested in investing into perspective projects is also a great strategy.
The matter of «Local Becomes Global: How National Brands Can Succeed on the Global Marketplace» was discussed by Victor Evtukhov, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation (Russia), Carlos Espinosa de Los Monteros, High Government Commissioner for the Spain Brand (Spain), Jeffry Aronsson, Founder & CEO, Aronsson Group LLC (USA), Pascal Morand,Executive President, French Federation of the Haute Couture and Pret-a-porter (France). Igor Bartsits, Director of IPACS, RANEPA (Russia), moderated the discussion. Victor Evtukhov said that the state is concerned about helping the Russian brands to become recognizable. Cooperation with them brings much more profit after they become recognized and go global. Brands that celebrate the Russian culture and aesthetic traditions have great market potential. Pascal Morand agreed that cultural identification of a brand matters. Carlos Espinosa recommended to assess the brand’s advantages and to use them. He gave notice to the high expertise and textile industry of the pre-revolutionary Russia and expressed his hopes that it will recover. Jeffry Aronsson indicated that building relations with consumers and partners will be really helpful in terms of perspective development.
Marvin Liao, Partner at 500 Startups (USA), shared his opinion on the rules that authors of start-up projects should follow. The platform that Marvin develops promotes innovative projects within the fashion industry. The speaker called e-commerce an important tool. We have interesting conditions for start-ups now. There is a whole set of technologies like social media, where almost free of charge you can comprehend and measure the public reaction. You can start a Web store and dispose of the territorial belonging. Successful business can afford scalability and going global, but a start-up can not. “Don’t try to become a big player at once. Start with one customer or a small group, satisfy their needs. A beginner can’t match mass demand”, this is what the speaker is sure about.
Olivia Spinelli, Fashion Coordinator at IED Moda Lab, Istituto Europeo di Design (Italy), introduced Giorgia Laureti and Parisi Luciano, IED Milan Graduates (Italy). She was aided by Olga Myelkova, Group Area Manager (Russia), the moderator. Studying in the European Design Institute is based on strong connection with the production sphere. An idea is not enough, a project should be brought to implementation. To keep up with the high quality standards and to accurately realize your ideas, you need full immersion, you need to know how business processes are started up. The graduates told how studying in IED Milan helped them to find their personal unique style and to understand where they should start their journey in the fashion industry.

Business program of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia has been set up as a two-day international conference Fashion Futurum. Panel discussions, workshops and presentations were launched in several zones of the Central Exhibition Hall Manege.
In the conference room Craig Arend, founder of Altamira NYC (USA), VR and AR expert, told the audience how VR technologies could be applied in retail. 3D videos and augmented reality bring new consumer experience: one can look at the product, try or test it and imagine it in different conditions. VR device that literally gives an opportunity to taste a meal without actually tasting it is already a reality. All you need is the objects printed on 3D printer, virtual environment, diffuser with an aroma and imitation of the effect of moving jaws. The speaker pointed out that virtual reality would soon become as simple and mundane as the use of telephone. Obviously, these technologies will be in demand in on-line stores for a detailed but distance introduction of a product to the client, and in demand with those retailers who look into the future and search new ways of interaction with the audience.
The next on the agenda was the panel discussion Future Jobs in Fashion: Fashion Professions Foresight, Expectations and Requirements. Representatives of the European institutions educating specialists of fashion industry discussed what contemporary education should be like and what professions would be in high demand in that field. Among the participants of the panel discussion were Sylvie Ebel, Executive Director, L’Institut Francais de la Mode (France); Danilo Venturi, Dean, Polimoda (Italy),Covadonga O’Shea, Founder, ISEM Fashion Business School, best-selling author (Spain). Tatiana Rivchun, Associate Dean, School of Design, Higher School of Economics (Russia), moderated the discussion. Speakers shared the view that the most productive studying method was the project work. Particularly participation in the project gives an understanding how production works, how to improve in communications, how the team work with other professionals is constructed. Bright personality and a good team player are what the employers are looking for. Apart from designers and production experts, the profession of fashion manager is in high demand and large companies offer opportunities for their professional development.
David Monteith, Fashion & Apparel Director at Flextronics (USA), devoted his workshop to the possibilities of synthesis of technologies and fashion. Studying fashion in a broad sense, as an array of prestigious objects, we can see that new technologies are already a part of it: smart accessories, fitness wear, watches and jewelry. Wearable technologies are one of the profiles of the company represented by David. The second direction, but not the least important one, is the technological advancement of the production process. Fast fashion, increase of production costs for clothes in China, demand for an individual approach in producing fashion for every particular client, set new tasks for the world of technologies. Many acute issues that fashion is facing today could be solved by production robotization. Hi-tech fabrics and accessories that can be status indicators and at the same time make one's life easier - it can all become a part of Haute Couture fashion provided experts in technologies and experts in aesthetics interact correctly and efficiently.
The innovations topic was continued by Giusy Bettoni, CEO at C.L.A.S.S. Eco Textile Library (Italy). Eco Textile Library was established by a group of companies from different countries. It works with the fashion houses and factories, aligns communication between them for the sake of ecological production of fabrics. Recycling of waste ends and use of newly discovered raw materials can save water resources and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Sustainable development as well as eco-production is something that should be supported, something that should be described to the clients for them to become aware of the new value.Guisy also advocated the increase of transparency in the production cycle: the consumer must know what he or she buys, consumers have the right to make a conscious choice.
The following experts participated in the discussion Fast Production for High-End Fashion: How does it Change the IndustryGeoffrey Willis (CEO, Trigon Select Ltd (UK), Mark Jarvis (Managing Director at World Textile Information Network (UK), Svetlana Andrianova, President of Company FARADEI CJSC,Filippo Ceroni, CEO of the Italian company Grazia Bagnaresi (Italy). Evgeny Kovnir, Deputy Director at Young Professional, ASI (Russia) conducted the talk with participants. Smart management can speed up the production processes; it includes the use of 3D printing and work in several directions simultaneously. Mark Jarvis expressed his assurance that the reverse process was also inevitable presupposing the slowdown of fashion and growing demand for customized products.
Giualia Pirovano, Group Market Director at Instituto Marangoni (Italy), told the audience about Talent Sourcing in the Fashion Industry. Setting Italian fashion industry as an example, the speaker shared how to succeed in the world of marketing and how talent sourcing and promotion of young talented designers was proceeded in Italy. She also responded to the question about the possible partnership of Russian designers with Italian market. 'Russian fashion has deep roots in spite of the fact that it is not so famous. We are ready to cooperate and share experience with the young Russian designers', underlined Pirovano. 'We invite them to come either to Milan or to Paris to the French school.' Natalya Pochinok, Rector of the Russian State Social Studies University, talked with Giulia.
The question about possible support of the young designers was brought up and the speaker gave a detailed answer: 'It is rather hard to get into the world of fashion because it is very competitive. We motivate young designers to take part in international events. There is a large number of festivals and fashion weeks but is hard to get through. National Chamber of Italian Fashion coordinates such events and arranged three of them: within 10 years we have been selecting the best designers among 200 people and proceeded with their promotion. We selected 30-35 designers and covered expenses for showroom rent, placed funds for advertising, provided contacts of the fashion houses, fabrics manufacturers and suppliers.' Apart from that, Pirovano highlighted the importance of support of the young designers on the state level.
The dialogue was followed by another public talk with Mark Jarvis, Managing Director at World Textile Information Network (UK). It was devoted to technologies and technology disruption in value chain. In the presentation, Mark Jarvis showed how digital technologies were applied in the fashion industry and gave a brief overview of the brands that offered their clients the opportunity to personalize the selected garments. 'What we observe is the perfect storm: there are demands coming from people and computers and technologies offer possibilities to respond to those demands. At the moment digital technologies exist apart from each other but soon they will be united in one space, it will happen, it is just a matter of time,' said the speaker.
David Monteith, Fashion & Apparel Director at Flextronics (USA), Amanda Parkes, Chief of Technology and Research at Manufacture NY (USA) and Dmitry Kolobov, Director of the Department on Development of the Industry of Socially Minded Goods in the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation discussed the following milestone in the fashion industry: Smart Clothing for People with Disabilities.Sergey Karnaukhov, Head of the Federal Project Alliance of Russian Art Engineers, Associate Professor RANEPA (Russia) was the moderator of the discussion. In this fashion direction, the focus is not only on the aesthetics but also on comfortable characteristics and usability. Companies dealing with clothes production for people with disabilities work very closely with the clients. Manufacturing of special clothes requires attention and precision. Embedding electronic devices (for diagnosing the health state and improving mobility) into costumes is the issue that manufacturers of such brands are trying to solve. However different approaches are possible in design: from modelling familiar visual volumes to decoration of artificial limbs. Positioning issues are also still on the agenda.
The panel discussion Fashion is Next Hot Spot for Investments included the following participants:Alexander Korchevsky, Partner at 12BF Global Ventures, Irina Dyadyunova, CEO at Russian Fashion Council and Kirill Tischenko, representative of Investment Dept at Skolkovo Foundation. Speakers talked on the subject of financing designers, about the necessity to forecast risks and analyze fashion markets independent of the scale of the project. The investor should be aware of the market niche to be occupied by designer and the brand so that he could see the perspectives. Irina Dyadyunova raised an issue about financial support to Russian designers with small production facilities, mentioned the specifics of work with such designers and common competition rules.
The question - Why Retailers Should Have an Innovation Program? - was answered by Scott Emmons, Head of the Innovation Lab, Neiman Marcus (USA). A great number of applications was created to simplify communication between the world of fashion and consumer. For instance, Memory Mirror, Snap. Find. Shop, Alerttec or the brand new application Inside by Powerfront. 'I would like to use this project to change the communication paradigm with the Internet client,' shared Scott Emmons. He also touched upon the subject of customized approach to shopping and advantages of the innovation programs that give the client an opportunity to get detailed information in the shortest possible span of time in regards of the appealing brand.
General Director of Be-in.ru Alexey Bajenov talked with Michael Burke, Head of Industry, Fashion, Sports & Toys, Google (USA) about the correlation of the role of glossy magazines and social networks in creating an image and in retail. Speaker provided statistical data and mentioned that today 75% of all purchases were done under the influence of Internet. Contemporary consumer cannot simply come to the store, talk to the sales manager and try on an item. He/she avoids consultants, conducts a search and makes a decision before going into a store. Images from glossy magazines are far from real desires of a particular consumer that is why they use search systems. Google became a tool for direct sales; it helps in collecting information about interests of the user, besides there is search engine advertising. Instagram has also become an important tool with the critical mass of popular bloggers. Now it is an image platform, one cannot shop there but can study the brands closer. Social networks provide opportunities to build a direct connection with the client at the same time pushing out the gloss and reducing costs on retail.
During the panel discussion Incubation of Fashion Tech the following experts shared their experience:Don Lim, Head of the Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (South Korea), Garry Stewart, Director at Wayra (UK) and Arseniy Uralov, CEO at Steelup.ru (Russia). Moderator of the discussion wasEkaterina Inozemtseva, Vice-President at Skolkovo Foundation (Russia). Don Lim shared his vision and told that technology should first be launched, then offered and only afterwards the demand growth could be expected. Fashion industry has good chances to become a platform for launching new technologies. Garry Stewart pointed out the possibility of cooperation with big players of the market that can draw attention of the audience to the new smaller companies. Arseniy used his infrastructure project as an example and demonstrated how incubator can assist in finding the sales market and in attracting investors.
COO Dr. Claudio D. Martelli told about the work of his company Trigon Select, Ltd (UK). In conditions of fast fashion managers have to deal with multiple types of demands. There is no time left for selecting the right suppliers. Trigon Select unites experts who have been working in the field of clothes manufacturing for a long time. Company deals with standardization of evaluation processes of production. Experts from Trigon Select go to a factory to any part of the world, study the economic profitability, equipment, qualification of employees and many other important aspects. The result of their work is regularly refilled global rating of suppliers. After completing the research and establishing the rating value, the company conducts SWOT-analysis and gives development recommendations.
Panel discussion System Disruption: Do Fashion Weeks Have a Future completed the first day of the international conference Fashion Futurum. The following experts were on board: Pascal Morand,Executive President, French Federation of the Haute Couture and Pret-a-porte (France), Xiaolei LV, Vice Secretary General of Shanghai Fashion Week (China) and Alexander Shumsky, Executive President of Russian Fashion Council (Russia). Pascal Morand noted that fashion weeks are icon events that reflect the state of the Russian fashion industry. Xiaolei LV underlines the importance of constant reinforcement of market positions and the importance of finding the target audience. Alexander Shumsky talked about the establishing of a business model and importance of a concept. He also mentioned how critical it is to calculate the process, which will give the designer opportunity to arrange individual fashion shows.

Record numbers at the Postbahnhof –
and eco-fashion more significant than ever

Substantial increase in visitors
as mainstream retailers recognise the potential of green fashion

Fashion shows wow buyers and VIPs alike

With every ticket sold at the Postbahnhof venue, substantially increased visitor numbers and a variety of enthralling innovations, Greenshowroom and the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin have now ended, after three highly three successful and action-packed days. “The duo of green trade fairs won over their audiences with the extremely high quality of the collections displayed within a newly expanded space. The high visitor numbers seen on all three days of the events prove to us that the great diversity of what we are offering is of genuine appeal. Particularly from mainstream retailers, we are registering even higher levels of interest,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt. With 179 international labels*, the pair of trade fairs has once again earned its place both as the main platform for ecologically and fairly produced fashion during Berlin Fashion Week and as a unique hotspot within Europe for sustainable fashion.

At Greenshowroom, a total of 40 international contemporary labels were on display. There, designers wowed audiences with their skilful mixing of styles, as glamour was excitingly combined with sporting chic. For the coming autumn/winter season, more colourful and contrasting looks are on trend. These include broad silhouettes combined with tailored fits and dusky tones set against showy colours. “We’ve enjoyed three very successful days. As well as our many existing clients, the newly added‘Active Slow’ area has made a positive impact and enabled us to hold some good conversations,” explains Florian Werner, Managing Director of Werner Schuhe. At the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin, 139 different
labels successfully showcased a wide variety of looks for the next autumn/winter season. Buyers and in an expanded space, industry players were exposed to a broad spectrum of sophisticated fashion.

“We’ve been involved right from the very start and love exhibiting at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin,” Bert van Son, Managing Director of Mud Jeans explains enthusiastically. “We are really happy about the growth in the two events and are pleased to have taken part in the new Sportswear International area in the club. Both German and international retailers have placed orders with us and were excited by our concept.”

Retailers confirm increasing demand for eco-fashion
The trend is continuing – more and more mainstream retailers are visiting Berlin as they plan to give a platform to eco-fashion. “It’s our first time here and we’ve placed orders right away. In doing this, we’re responding to the ever-increasing demand for green fashion from our customers and are expanding our range with attractive new lines,” reports Axel Haubrok of the Susanne Kissel fashion house in Speyer, south-west Germany. There was also an appreciable rise in the number of international visitors to the shows.

A high energy display opportunity for designers
At the “Salonshow”, selected Greenshowroom designers were able to showcase some of the most exciting trends in contemporary fashion for A/W 2017/18. For the first time ever, Messe Frankfurt arranged for the catwalk show to take place in Berlin’s Energieforum, a dynamic setting for the highlights of the new collections. The show included pieces from a highly varied selection of current labels, including outfits by Austriandesign.at, Biaggi, Blue Valley, Inti Ferreira, Johanna Riplinger, Lanius, LaniusXKunert, Royal Blush, Studio Elsien Gringhuis, Studio Jux and Xess+Baba. “The Salonshow was a complete success,” says Katharina Ley, Head of PR at Lanius. “It gave us a great opportunity to present our partnership with Kunert on the runway. We had goose bumps when we saw the front row nicely full of top journalists and celebrities like Eva Padberg, and the bright eyes of the sell-out audience.” Musical accompaniment was provided by Mischa Blanos.

During the “Ethical Fashion on Stage” catwalk show, international casual designers showcased a broad selection from their A/W collections. The show included new items from the following labels that were exhibiting at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin: B Frog, C. Pauli, Chapati, Colombo3, Elementum, Greenbomb, Jaspe, Komodo, Myssyfarmi, Naturaline, Organication, Shirts for life and Tranquillo. To finish the show, lavera Naturkosmetik presented the collection of the winner of the January 2016 lavera Green Fashion Award: Paul Iby & Johanna Winklhofer. The soundtrack was supplied by Delfonic.

“Prepeek” – opening new routes of communication
With PrePeek, the organisers of the trade fair duo for the first time arranged a blogger and influencer initiative – in cooperation with Hamburg-based fashion website Kleiderei.com and with support from Weleda. Thanks to the many bloggers and influencers who took part, the event, which received great feedback, was a resounding success. Those taking part chose items from the collections of the participating labels and included them in photo shoots to present to their online communities. In this way, new routes of communication were opened, via the bloggers and influencers, to consumer audiences.

The next editions of Greenshowroom and the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin will be held from 4 to 6 July 2017.

Laurèl Fashion Show „FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS“ @ Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin

“Follow Your Dreams” is the title of the Laurèl Fashion Show held today at 6 pm in Kaufhaus Jandorf, the new location at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin.

Daydreams, life dreams, the stuff that dreams are made from… Laurèl’s Fall/Winter 2017 Collection explores the concept under the heading of “Follow Your Dreams.” “I’m inspired by people that hold fast to their dreams,” explains Laurèl Head of Design Elisabeth Schwaiger. Her new collection focuses on capturing shooting stars from the sky, building self-esteem and bringing visions to life.

Star guests including Mina Tander, Jeanette Hain, Alexandra Neldel, Katja Flint, Alice Dwyer, Sonja Gerhardt, and Maria Ehrich lined the first row and followed the show with fascination. Other VIPs from the worlds of entertainment and society, among them Judith Rakers, Doris Golpashin, Ursula Karven, Viktoria Lauterbach, Bonnie Strange, Johanna Klum, Loretta Stern, and Jana Ina Zarrella, rubbed shoulders with more big acting names like Gizem Emre, Anna Thalbach, Chiara Schoras, Laura de Boer, Stephanie Stumph, Mariella Ahrens, Ann-Kathrin Kramer, Gerit Kling, and up-and-coming stars such as Mala Emde und Ben Münchow, all keen to snatch the first exclusive look of Laurèl’s new styles.

“Don't part with your illusions,” advised Mark Twain. Dreams are what give us motivation and spark our creativity––in fashion as in life. Elisabeth Schwaiger and her design team have expressed this idea in the new collection, reveling in opulent fabrics of brocade and silk, glowingly colorful art prints, playful patterns and sequined embellishments––like an evening dress with allover embroidery in rich Bronze. “I believe dreams are always journeys to another world or another time,” reflects the designer about the new season’s collection. “Dance like nobody’s watching… just going for it and giving my emotions free rein. The result was a lavish array of historical style references and modern elements, which are blended together to create a world of fashion dreams.”

The collection’s most distinctive feature is its diversity of style. Exotic, opulent touches confront a sporty, casual coolness that is very Nineties. Grunge meets baroque, masculine teams up with feminine, streetwear embraces romantic, and all fuse into a “rough, laid-back luxury” that is the essence of the look.

Outlines are flowing, playfully combining a variety of lengths. Styles are highly decorative, featuring a Seventies twist that showcases their feminine side, yet is countered by flowing shapes. Raw-seamed knits in casual cocooning-inspired lines bring vibrant contrast to more tailored looks in classic checks that give a nod to the Scottish Highlands.

Heritage patterns receive a new lease of life, opening up breathtaking worlds of fabric;  brocades and jacquards are designed exclusively for Laurèl, reminiscent of the Arabian Nights and referencing vintage kimono prints from the heart of Asia. Subtle sparkle, added by Lurex, lame, metallic-finish leather, and shimmering prints, is a predominant design feature and permeates the entire collection. It’s like breathing cold, crisp air on a winter night, walking through a flurry of glittering, sparkling snow crystals.

Highlights include a velvet overall in Teal, teamed with a check coat in brushed wool; a full-length pleated dress with side slits in Black, parting on the catwalk to reveal a fine knitted catsuit in pastel Violet, and a full-length velvet dress with art print in shades of Green with double strap detail, teamed with a jacket in Khaki.

Styling makes use of recurring elements; parkas are nonchalantly shoulder-robed or carried over the arm, and deliver clear-cut contrasts to evening dresses. Large shawl collars in chunky knits add a rough-edged, modern feel to these ultra-opulent styles. The bold pattern mixes are finished with velvet heels worn with sparkling short socks, fur sandals, or shiny sneakers. It’s a collection that throws open the doors of creativity, allowing space for individual personality.

Make-up is natural, in a sunny, nude look set off by an electric jolt of pure red lip color. Hair is drawn into a bun with loose strands casually curling at the sides, effectively framing the glamorous earrings.

As a first this season, we invited some very special influencers to visit us in the Miss Laurèl Loftin the gorgeous Gorki Apartments. Guests included the ladies from Queen of Jetlags, The Fashion Fraction, Designdschungel, Lisa RVD, Hoard of Trends, and Simple et Chic, who selected their personal highlights from the new collection and dressed them up in line with their personal vision. The dazzling Laurèl street styles they created were photographed in the area around the location. Pictures are available here:

Don’t hesitate to contact us at any time if you have questions or need more information. We look forward to hearing your feedback!
