Young guns looking forward to Rookie Test
Together with Paul-Loup Chatin, Gustavo Menezes and Pipo Derani have more reasons than most to look forward to the final round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship in Bahrain after their selection for the LMP1 rookie test on Sunday 20 November.
Both men were chosen by the series organisers as a reward for their standout campaigns in LMP2. Twenty-two-year-old Menezes sealed the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMP2 Drivers in China and won the Le Mans 24 Hours at the first attempt in June, while 23-year-old Derani currently lies fourth in the standings for Extreme Speed Motorsports with four podiums to his name.
The pair’s stellar performances resulted in them being placed with Porsche and Toyota for the test, where they will be joined by Frenchman Paul-Loup Chatin in the Audi R18.

Winner of 2016 WEC Instagram competition announced
For the third year running the FIA World Endurance Championship has run a competition for fans encouraging them to submit a photo which represents the “Spirit of Le Mans”, and each year it gets more and more popular.
This year the competition was run through the WEC’s official Instagram account (@fiawec_official). Entrants had to post a photo from a round of the 2016 championship, using the hashtag #WECPhotoComp2016 and following the WEC on Instagram.
Against strong competition from over 1500 entries received from all over the world, the judges decided that Marcel Tauch’s superb photo of the No.5 Toyota TS050 HYBRID at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (above) was the winning shot. The image brilliantly captures the colour, speed, energy and accessibility of the WEC, and is one that professional photographers would be proud of.
