Thousands of human skulls are revered in Bolivia, in celebration or without nose “Day ñatitas” because their owners are attributed miraculous powers and the ability to communicate with the living through dreams.
The General Cemetery of La Paz city becomes every November 8 epicenter of the visit of some 20,000 devotees to celebrate the feast, eight days after the Day of the Dead. People come to the cemetery with their skulls, whom they call “ñatitas” a familiar word to emphasize that human figures are no nose. The pieces are adorned with wool caps, hats or wreaths.
Outside the cemetery thousands of people gather with their skulls to share, to eat in honor of the bone piece and even to make music because they want to thank you for the miracles they say they provide.
