Formula E has been ranked as the Best Total Performer from more than 300 global sports organisations in the 2022 Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sports (GSBS) annual report.

GSBS is an independent, global not-for-profit organisation, which analyses and benchmarks the sustainability performance of professional sports organisations through an unbiased, science-driven and data-based process.

The study analysed more than 50 elite sports organisations of more than 300 invited to take part.  Sports federations and leagues ranked in the report include the NFL, NBA, FIFA, Formula 1, UFC and WWE as well as clubs including the New York Yankees, FC Barcelona, LA Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.

Formula E achieved a record-breaking benchmark score to win Best Total Performance 2022. Formula E was also ranked highest in three of the remaining four categories: Best Corporate Performance, Best Environmental Performance, and Best Governance Performance. Italian football club Juventus won the Best Social Performance title.

Jamie Reigle, Chief Executive Officer, Formula E, said:

“Setting the global standard for sustainability in sport has been a core characteristic of Formula E since we began in 2014. We welcome the top ranking by GSBS as recognition for the dedication of our employees, teams and partners. We also acknowledge the efforts and achievements in sustainability by other major sports organisations around the world and welcome that progress. Together, we have the potential to engage billions of fans in the mission to combat climate change and make a positive difference to the lives of future generations.”

Christian Hartmann, Chief Executive Officer, GSBS, said:

"Formula E impressed us at the GSBS on several levels. Overall, their corporate structure and processes reflect their commitment to sustainability. We assess a wide range of data points, environmental, social, governance, and business factors, and in each area, both the amount of data available and annual trends lead the industry. Sustainability is literally lived in Formula E, and the entire team's dedication was felt throughout the audit process. In combination, this has resulted in Formula E receiving a GSBS Award in 4 out of 5 categories and we are looking forward to documenting the development in the years to come."

Now entering Season 9, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship mission is to accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles. The championship also operates as a testbed to push the development of new technologies needed for an electric, low-carbon future. Leading international car brands including Jaguar, Maserati, McLaren, Mahindra, Nissan and Porsche are among the 11 teams in the championship.

Formula E is the only sport in the world to achieve net zero since inception and is a founding member of UNICEF’s Safe and Healthy Environment Fund, specifically designed to help and educate children affected by climate change.

Ahead of the first race of Season 9 in Mexico City on 14 January, pre-season testing is underway in Valencia this week where the all-new Gen3 race car is on track for the first time.

The Gen3 is the fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric race car ever built. Key sustainability characteristics of the Gen3 include:

  • The carbon footprint of the Gen3 has been measured from the design phase to inform all reduction measures taken to reduce environmental impact, while all unavoidable emissions are offset as part of Formula E’s net zero carbon commitment.

  • Linen and recycled carbon fibre are used in bodywork construction for the first time in a formula car featuring recycled carbon fibre from retired Gen2 cars and reducing the overall amount of virgin carbon fibre used. This reduces the carbon footprint of the production of the Gen3 bodywork more than 10%. All waste carbon fibre will be reused for new applications through adoption of an innovative process from the aviation industry.

  • Gen3 batteries are among the most advanced, sustainable batteries ever made consisting of sustainably-sourced minerals while battery cells will be reused and recycled at end of life.

  • Natural rubber and recycled fibres make up 26% of new Gen3 tyres and all tyres will be fully recycled after racing.

  • All Gen3 suppliers operate in line with top international standards to reduce environmental impacts of manufacturing (ISO 14001) and be FIA Environmental Accreditation 3-Star rated.

  • Fastest Formula E car yet with a top speed over 322 kph / 200 mph.

  • Most efficient formula racing car ever with more than 40% of the energy used within a race produced by regenerative braking.

  • Around 95% power efficiency from an electric motor delivering up to 350kW of power (470BHP), compared to approximately 40% for an internal combustion engine.

  • First-ever formula car with both front and rear powertrains. A new front powertrain adds 250kW to the 350kW at the rear, more than doubling the regenerative capability of the current Gen2 to a total of 600kW.

  • Ultra-high speed charging capability of 600kW for additional energy during a race, almost double the energy of the most advanced commercial chargers in the world.

  • The first formula car that will not feature rear hydraulic brakes with the addition of the front powertrain and its regenerative capability.

Formula E recently unveiled a fresh new look ahead of Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and the debut of the Gen3 car, new races in iconic world cities, new teams and new sporting formats.

The Gen3 – the fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric race car ever built – will make its competitive debut in Round 1 in Mexico City on 14 January, following pre-season testing next month in Valencia.

The championship will continue with three new cities hosting Formula E races for the first time: Hyderabad, India (Round 4, 11 February); Cape Town, South Africa (Round 5, 25 February) and São Paulo, Brazil (Round 6, 25 March).

McLaren and Maserati are new to the Formula E grid next season. They will join some of the biggest names in motorsport including Jaguar, Porsche and Nissan among the 11 teams and 22 drivers competing for world titles.

Sporting regulation updates include a return to racing over laps; rookie drivers taking a seat for teams in FP1 sessions; and a plan to introduce a 30-second 4kWh ‘Attack Charge’ boost at select races, made possible through the development of the most advanced EV battery in the world today.

To coincide with the start of the Gen3 era, Formula E has reimagined the visual and sonic brand identity of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

New look:

The new identity is inspired by the instant torque of electric acceleration.  The system also reflects the sport’s role as a catalyst; helping manufacturers accelerate electric vehicle technologies, the pace with which new fans are coming into the sport, the unprecedented speed that the sport achieved FIA World Championship status and more broadly the championship’s vision to accelerate sustainable human progress.

At the heart of the new system is the Torque Loop that represents the excitement and energy at the core of the brand and the sport. This self-sustaining loop is the source of the new logo, typeface and the brand’s new animation principles.

Formula E have maintained a core association with blue as a signifier of electricity but expanded its palette to include a more extensive colour system, enabling the championship to emphasise its unique offer in three modes: world class motorsport (Race); cutting-edge technology and sustainability credentials (Reason); and positive impact on the global community (Culture).

The rebrand will be rolled out over the coming days, weeks and months starting with Formula E’s digital estate. In the new year, new web and app functionality will come online to enhance the fan experience. By the time Season 9 launches in Mexico City the new identity will be brought to life across hundreds of touchpoints from trackside to marketing to broadcast.

New sound of Formula E:

Sound has been one of Formula E’s most distinctive and disruptive qualities since the first race in 2014. For Season 9, an all-new sonic identity has been developed for use across broadcast, digital and marketing channels, with the new sound of the Gen3 race car at its core.

Test recordings of the race cars were captured to form the basis of the sonic identity, with the recordings remixed into a suite of sound assets. New broadcast title music and a full broadcast score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with a 55-piece orchestra.

Henry Chilcott, Chief Marketing Officer, Formula E, said:

“This new identity is part of our ongoing mission to build a new category of tier one sport. It’s a system designed to inspire and excite fans around the world as well as create a stronger, more extensible platform for our partners, teams, manufacturers and broadcasters”.

In the run-up to the 2022 Monaco E-Prix, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has unveiled its next generation car which is set to be used from the series’ ninth season of competition.

As the successor to the current Gen2 model – which has been in use since 2018 – the Gen3 marks a significant step and sets a new industry benchmark for electric vehicle technology.

Flawless Performance

The vehicle represents uncompromising performance, optimal efficiency and unrivalled sustainability and will be the fastest Formula E car to date.

Specially designed with performance at the fore, the Gen3 is lighter than its predecessors and by producing up to 350kW of power, will have a top speed of over 200mph.

The Gen3 will also be the first Formula car to sport both front and rear powertrains and will have 600kW regenerative capabilities as a result – double that of the current Gen2 car.

As such, a minimum of 40% of all energy used within a race distance will be produced by regenerative braking while, with an electric motor that achieves 95% efficiency, the Gen3 will be the most energy-efficient racing car in the world.

With 600kW ultra-high-speed charging during races – almost double the energy of the world’s most advanced commercial charger – Formula E’s next generation will also develop charging technologies as the series continues to revolutionize the automotive industry.

A Radical Future

Combining the Gen3’s enhanced performance with its radical fighter jet-inspired design, the vehicle is lightweight and compact to ensure agility in wheel-to-wheel combat on track.

Sustainability is also at the heart of the car and while battery cells will be reused and recycled, for the first time in history, bodywork will be made using linen and recycled carbon fibre and will feature materials from retired Gen2 cars.

ROKiT Venturi Racing will accelerate into this new era in partnership with Maserati, which will become the first Italian brand to race in Formula E.

Edoardo Mortara, ROCKiT Venturi Racing Team car driver state:

“In terms of technical innovation, on paper the Gen3 car looks very impressive. It should mark a massive step forward performance-wise in comparison to the current Gen2 and the car has quite a striking appearance. As a driver we are always hunting for the edge - extra grip, increased performance and the optimal package so I’m looking forward to seeing how the car handles and how competitive it will be on track.”

After six hard-fought races, ROKiT Venturi Racing son the Team's Championship Title in the Grand Final of Formula E: Accelerate, by beating Dragon Penske Autosport and BMW i Andretti to the top spot.

Holding three victories and four podiums from five races, Monaco’s only racing team and driver, Erhan Jajovski held P1 in both the Teams’ and Drivers’ Standings, however, with double points on offer, there was still everything to play for in Round 6.

In qualifying for the final race of the season, Erhan secured P3 on the grid while team-mate, Lorenz Hoerzing, maintained his upward trajectory in one-lap pace by netting P7.

With Drivers’ Championship rival Frederik Rasmussen starting from pole position, it was vital for Erhan to overtake, and when the 25-minute race got underway, the Macedonian maintained a competitive P3.

When Rasmussen set the fastest lap – a landmark moment in the title fight – Erhan soon began to fight back but contact with the wall on a push lap heavily impacted the 25-year-old’s car performance.
This forced Erhan into a defensive approach, but with a deficit in straight-line speed, he slipped down to P5, getting overtaken by Jarno Opmeer and Kevin Siggy in the final minutes.

Erhan maintained this position until the chequered flag waved to front a haul of 28 points as Lorenz secured P8 after a hotly contested fight for the final points-paying positions.

By taking P5, Erhan secured the Formula E: Accelerate Vice-Championship, eight points stretched off Rasmussen's, although the fight for the Team's Title far from over.

In the second leg of the Accelerate Driver Challenge, a win for Edoardo Mortara extended ROKiT Venturi Racing’s total tally by a further 25 points.

With a total of 195 points on the board, the Monegasque marque secured the Team's Championship Title, finishing 36 points clear of the rest of the Formula E field.

Welcomes Jérôme D’Ambrosio

Multiple E-Prix winner joins the Monegasque marque as Deputy Team Principal

ROKiT Venturi Racing announced the addition of Jérôme D’Ambrosio to the team, as he takes on the role of Deputy Team Principal based at the team’s headquarters in Monaco.

Reporting to Team Principal, Susie Wolff, Jérôme brings a wealth of motorsport experience to the team having contested every Formula E race since the series began in 2014.

The move signifies the 34-year-old Belgian former Formula 1 driver’s formal retirement from competitive driving.

Jérôme D’Ambrosio, Deputy Team Principal, ROKiT Venturi Racing:

“My experience as a driver over the past 26 years has undeniably shaped me as a person and, when I decided after Berlin to hang up my helmet, I knew I wanted to stay involved in motorsport in some capacity. I’m still a very competitive person. That hunger to win doesn’t leave you when you decide to step out of the car, and I want to put that passion to good use. When Susie and I started talking about potentially taking my first step into a management role, I knew in my gut that the opportunity was perfect for me. It’s time for a new challenge and I have a lot to learn, but I know that I’ll be learning from one of the best and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead. I want to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to my family, to my friends and also to my fans for the incredible support and help throughout my career as a driver and also now on this next adventure. Their continued and unwavering belief has meant the world to me.”

Susie Wolff, Team Principal, ROKiT Venturi Racing:

“When I took on the role of Team Principal in July 2018, one of my main areas of focus was to ensure that we have the right people in the right roles. Understandably, as we evolve as a team, our needs change and grow. Jérôme taking on the role of Deputy Team Principal will serve to strengthen the team - he will play a pivotal role with our drivers and engineering team and act as my right hand in Monaco. I know what it’s like to hang up your helmet and I also know how important the next move is at any pivotal stage of a person’s career. Like Jérôme, I’m someone who follows their gut instincts and I think that we’ll make a fantastic team moving forward.”

The most sustainable squad on the grid becomes the first Formula E team in history to receive Three-Star Accreditation– the highest accolade in the FIA’s framework.

Mahindra Racing is delighted to announce that it is the first Formula E team in history to receive the highest sustainability accolade by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), motorsport’s governing body.

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme is aimed at helping motorsport and mobility stakeholders worldwide to measure and enhance their environmental performance. By introducing a clear and consistent environmental management system, it provides stakeholders with a three-level framework against which to accredit their activities. After initially achieving Two-Star Accreditation in November 2016, which was reconfirmed after an audit in December 2018, the team has worked tirelessly to work towards Excellence in the accreditation process.

Three-Star Accreditation translates as Best Practice. By awarding Mahindra Racing with the accolade, the FIA recognises that the team, which was the first OEM to commit to the world’s first all-electric racing championship, demonstrates best practice and commitment to seek continual improvement through the implementation of an environmental management system. Mahindra Racing is only the second motorsport team in the world to receive Three-Star, in addition to McLaren Racing Formula 1 Team.

Mahindra Racing’s efforts are, and will continue to be, in tandem with Mahindra Group’s commitment and quest to achieve group-wide carbon neutrality. Under the aegis of the Mahindra Hariyali initiative, the Group aims to increase the green cover by planting more and more trees and providing livelihood and nutritional security with a commitment to plant 1 million trees every year. With the annual commitment of one million trees met this year, the plantation stands at 18 million trees over the last 13 years. Hariyali means ‘greenery’ in Hindi.

The team’s news comes just days after Formula E, which becomes a World Championship for the first time in the upcoming season, announced it has become the first sport to achieve a net zero carbon footprint dating back to inception. This announcement from the sport was also key to Mahindra Racing, as it means that the team has a net zero carbon footprint on all race and test events, including freight, travel, event operations and race car production.

The team is committed to the FIA environmental certification programme by minimising its environmental impact and working towards achieving carbon neutrality. It takes learnings from advanced technologies on the race track to apply it to its road cars within its Race to Road initiative, developing and promoting more sustainable transportation solutions.

Mahindra Racing’s efforts are underpinned by the wider Mahindra Group sustainability efforts. Chairman Anand Mahindra is considered one of the world's most innovative business leaders and has been an outspoken advocate of seizing the business opportunities associated with climate change; building sustainable and enduring businesses by rejuvenating the environment. The sustainability framework is a comprehensive one that guides Mahindra Group’s actions and it has a long-term commitment towards the preservation and improvement of the environment. Its climate commitments include being a carbon neutral group by 2040, it is a ‘water positive’ group and it owns 14 facilities that are Zero-Waste-to-Landfill certified (by Intertek), where it was able to recycle, reuse & compost over 140,000 tonnes of waste in 2018 alone.

Formula E confirms the return of the 2019/20 season with a six-race title decider in Berlin

A SIX-RACE SHOWDOWN
Following a 110 day break from racing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Formula E has today confirmed that it will resume the 2019/20 season with a six-race season finale in Berlin.
Racing on the Flughafen Tempelhof Circuit, three double-header events will take place in quick succession on August 5/6, 8/9 and 12/13 to conclude the series’ sixth season of competition.
Each pair of races in this nine-day period will be held on a different circuit configuration which will allow for Formula E’s acclaimed unpredictable and high-octane racing to continue, with each layout presenting a fresh strategic challenge to teams.

SAFETY FIRST
To ensure the safe conclusion of Season 6, Formula E has been working in close consultation with the FIA and the championship’s teams, including ROKiT Venturi Racing.
For the season conclusion, strict safety measures will be implemented in order to mitigate risk, with only essential staff travelling to the event which will take place behind closed doors.
In accordance with guidelines from the German government, a maximum of 1,000 people will be allowed on site while coronavirus testing prior to races will be mandatory.
On-site screening will take place daily upon arrival to the circuit while the use of face masks, social distancing, and limited movement across workspaces will be actively enforced.

GAME ON
With five races completed to date, 288 points are still available to teams as per Formula E’s revised 11-event calendar.
Notching 34 points to date through the services of Edoardo Mortara and Felipe Massa, ROKiT Venturi Racing is one of only three teams to record points in every race this season.
Presently holding P8 in the Teams’ Championship, the Monegasque marque is only 64 points adrift of present leaders DS Techeetah, meaning that everything is still to play for this August.

  • Pascal Wehrlein wins for Mahindra Racing in Round 4 of the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge
  • Second consecutive win and now tops the leaderboard
  • Lucas Muller wins the Challenge Grid race and moves up to P2 in the Series
The halfway point of the eight weekend ABB Formula E Race At Home Challenge saw Mahindra Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein and Jerome D’Ambrosio head to the virtual Hong Kong E-Prix circuit for Round 4 of the sim series.

After qualifying in P2, Pascal Wehrlein was caught up in a first lap incident which saw him drop down to fourth place. Undeterred, Mahindra’s #94 driver moved up through the field, overtaking James Calado on lap four and then taking advantage of Edoardo Mortara’s mistake on the following lap to take the lead.  He then opened up a commanding gap and cruised to a consecutive win, and to the top of the leaderboard.

Jerome qualified in 8th position and ran in a points-scoring position for a good portion of the race but was eliminated at the end of lap 10 due to the ‘Race Royale’ format, finishing 17th.

Earlier, Mahindra Racing’s Challenge Grid driver, Lucas Muller took a sensational victory in the closing stages of the race, moving him up to P2 in the Series; “I’m a bit speechless to be honest. I really wasn’t expecting to be fighting for a win but I think Joshua made a mistake in the chicane and then after that I was closing in and started to think that this could actually happen!”

PASCAL WEHRLEIN, #94: “Today was a bit special with the qualifying and the wet conditions, so it was unexpected for everyone. The race was chaotic at the beginning and my car ended up being slightly damaged – the steering was to the left - but I was able to be fast in these conditions and brought it home.”

DILBAGH GILL, CEO AND TEAM PRINCIPAL: “It’s been another fantastic day for Mahindra Racing!  It was a chaotic start to the race, but Pascal’s pace was lightning and he took a commanding win - his second of the series which puts him top of the leaderboard with four more races to go.  And with our sim racer Lucas Muller securing victory in the earlier Challenge Grid and moving up to second in the series, we couldn't have asked for more!”

  • Jerome D’Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein will race in the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge
  • Round 1 takes place on the Hong Kong E-Prix track on Saturday 25 April 2020
  • The new Esports competition will raise funds for UNICEF
Mahindra Racing drivers Jerome D’Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein will this weekend swap real life racing for virtual racing as they line-up for Round 1 of the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge. Jerome and Pascal will take to the virtual Hong Kong E-Prix track on Saturday 25 April for the opening race of this new eight-week Esports competition, which is the first major fundraising initiative in Formula E’s partnership with UNICEF that aims to keep children around the world safe, healthy and learning in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

The #64 and #94 drivers will participate in a one-lap qualifying session, which follows the Formula E championship’s four group format, with each group consisting of six drivers. The race takes the format of a ‘Race Royale’ battle; after lights out on the race, one driver will be eliminated after every lap until there are 10 drivers remaining to battle it out in one final ‘sprint to the finish’ lap to determine the winner. The race points system will be the same system the championship uses; 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 distributed to the top ten, with one point awarded to the driver with the DHL Fastest Lap and one point to the driver who qualifies in Julius Baer Pole Position. Drivers will be fighting hard for the chance to become the inaugural Formula E sim series champion.

Following the temporary postponement of the 2019/20 season, the eight-week ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge blends together the real and gaming worlds. Fans will be able to watch all the action on the Formula E website, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch accounts. Mahindra Racing’s passioneers can also follow Jerome and Pascal on their individual Twitch streams as well.

Round 1 of the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge takes place on Saturday 25 April from 15:30 BST and will take place each Saturday for eight weeks.

JEROME D’AMBROSIO, #64: “It will be great to be racing against my Formula E competitors again, and to be helping to raise awareness and funds for UNICEF and the vital work they are doing during this pandemic. We might not be back trackside just yet, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be any less competitive on track. It should be a lot of fun for the fans to watch from their homes!”

PASCAL WEHRLEIN, #94: “I’m looking forward to being back racing – albeit virtually!  It’s a challenging time for everyone, so I’m pleased that we can be putting on a good show for the fans watching at home as well as the event raising funds for a very worthy cause. It will be great for us drivers to be racing regularly again – even though it’s virtual racing, it will still help keep us sharp for when we go back to real life racing.”

DILBAGH GILL, CEO AND TEAM PRINCIPAL: “Mahindra Racing is proud to participate and support the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge as it raises funds for the invaluable work that UNICEF is doing. In these unprecedented times, it’s important for the motorsport community to come together to support each other and those who are less fortunate, and this series is a fantastic way to do this. We are all missing racing in Formula E, but in the meantime I will be cheering Jerome and Pascal on from home as they fly the Mahindra Racing flag in Esports. Hong Kong has been a good circuit to us in the past; we won the race there in Season 4, so let’s see what we can do in the virtual world!”

Mahindra Racing returns to its happy hunting ground for round five of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship on Saturday 29 February after the squad became the only team to make four consecutive Super Pole appearances in Season 6 last time out in Mexico. Following the Marrakesh E-Prix, the team is also pleased to announce it will be running Pipo Derani and its Reserve and Simulator driver Sam Dejonghe in the rookie test on Sunday 1 March.

Jérôme D’Ambrosio, the 2018/19 season winner of the Marrakesh E-Prix, who became the sixth highest scoring Formula E driver of all time after the Mexico City E-Prix, will pilot the #64 M6Electro. His teammate Pascal Wehrlein, who had a strong qualifying session in his very first Formula E race in Marrakesh in Season 5, will be looking to repeat that in his #94 M6Electro.

Derani will join Mahindra Racing for the rookie test day. He has made a name for himself in single seater and sportscar racing as a British Formula 3 and Petit Le Mans winner. In 2016 he won the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona to become the first Brazilian to achieve these two feats in the same year. The 26-year-old has since won the 12 Hours of Sebring two further times (2018 and 2019), making him the youngest ever three-time winner and joining the Florida venue’s hall of fame alongside Formula 1 Champion Phil Hill and the legendary Mario Andretti. Most recently, Derani was runner-up in the 2019 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship.

Dejonghe is a familiar face in the Formula E paddock. This will be the Belgian driver’s third rookie test. Since his last Formula E test, Dejonghe has grown his trophy collection from racing in the European Le Mans Series and continued as an F1 commentator for PlaySports, in addition to his role at Mahindra Racing. He’s back in Marrakesh for a third time to continue to help the squad with its M6Electro development programme.

The Marrakesh E-Prix takes place on Saturday 29 February at 15.04 local time. The Marrakesh rookie test follows on Sunday 1 March.

A Logical Choice

ROKiT Venturi Racing is pleased to confirm that Norman Nato and Arthur Leclerc will form its driver line-up for the upcoming Formula E rookie test in Marrakesh.

Following on from their confirmation as Reserve and Test Drivers for Season 6, the team’s ongoing support for the Franco-Monegasque pairing is an endorsement of their continued progression.
A Chance to Advance

As the only in-season session of its kind, the rookie test is a key opportunity for development and will play a vital role in the continued refinement of the team’s Season 6 package.

Despite having previously comprised the team’s rookie test line-up in Season 5, this season’s edition gives Norman and Arthur a fresh opportunity, as they take the wheel of the Silver Arrow 01 for the first time, contributing to their own personal advancement.
A Few Words

Susie Wolff, Team Principal:
“Norman and Arthur continue to impress in the simulator back at base in Monaco and the running that both will complete in Marrakesh next week will be invaluable to the second half of our season. With limited in-season track time outside of races, our development at this stage is critical and the test in Marrakesh presents an important opportunity to improve.”

Norman Nato, Reserve Driver:
“I am very excited to drive the Silver Arrow 01 for the first time in Marrakesh. After extensive simulator work this season, the test marks a key opportunity to find a correlation as we match the telemetry of our on-track running to our simulator data. / For every Fanboost vote received by team drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Jérôme D’Ambrosio in Season 6, Mahindra Racing will plant a tree; meaning each vote will go towards helping our planet
/ Mahindra Racing continues to set the benchmark in sustainability and remains the only Formula E team to receive FIA Sustainability Accreditation two star rating
/ Unique sand art video released to launch the initiative created by Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions finalist Kseniya Simonova

Mahindra Racing is thrilled to announce a pioneering new Fanboost initiative ahead of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship’s season opener in Saudi Arabia this weekend. For Season 6, every vote received by the team’s drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Jérôme D’Ambrosio will convert into a tree planted; meaning fans can have a direct positive impact on the environment by voting for free when Fanboost for this weekend’s Diryah E-Prix opens.

The tree planting initiative is another measure that Mahindra Racing is taking as it continually strives to make positive changes for the environment. Mahindra Racing was the first, and remains the only, Formula E team to achieve FIA Sustainability Accreditation. The squad first successfully attained its two star rating (previously called “Progress Towards Excellence”) in November 2016 and, following a periodic audit in February this year, Mahindra Racing maintained its status in the framework, with the aim of being carbon neutral by 2020.

The team is committed to the FIA environmental certification programme by minimising its environmental impact and working towards achieving carbon neutrality. It also takes learnings from advanced technologies in its race car to apply it to its road cars within its Race to Road initiative, developing and promoting more sustainable transportation solutions.

To launch the initiative, Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions finalist and Ukraine’s Got Talent winner Kseniya Simonova has created a special sand art video showing how fans can make a difference to the environment through tree planting. Simonova has most recently been seen on screen on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, where Amanda Holden gave her the golden buzzer in the audition rounds to see her progress straight to the final and in America’s Got Talent: Champions, where she also reached the final.

Finally, the tradition of asking fans to name its car for the upcoming season continued ahead of the start of the 2019/20 campaign. Following a public vote across the Mahindra Racing social media channels to #NameTheM6Electro, Jérôme D’Ambrosio’s #64 car will be known as The Godfather. His teammate Pascal Wehrlein will pilot the #94 car, Electro McQueen.

GEOX DRAGON announced the signing of Nico Müller, to drive the #7 Penske EV-4 in the sixth season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
This season will be Nico’s first competition in a single-seater series since he scored two wins in his 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 campaign. Nico has spent the past six years climbing to the top of the DTM, and currently is second in the 2019 Drivers’ Championship.
Müller got his first taste of Formula E with two seasons as a Test and Reserve Driver. During this time, he demonstrated blistering pace, leading the Rookie Test at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Marrakech in Season 4 by nearly a second, while simultaneously setting the circuit record. In Season 5, Nico repeated the feat.
Since coming on board, the Swiss driver has quickly integrated into the Team’s development program, working on the track and at the squad’s new Silverstone facility to continue refining the Season 6 package. Upon his joining the American Team, Nico said that “I have already met and started working with most of the Team. They are an extremely motivated group of racers. They have proven their ability to win races and challenge for podiums in Formula E. They have done it before, and we aim to do it in Season 6.”
Müller added that “we have a big challenge ahead of us. We are an independent manufacturer, and the level of competition in Formula E is the highest in Motorsport, but I have a lot of confidence in the Team. We have a compact structure, and everyone has a full grasp on the project, so together we will be able to move quickly and optimize the PENSKE AUTOSPORT package.”
On his rookie campaign, Nico commented that “I love street racing, and I am looking forward to lining up against the best guys out there. Formula E is particularly challenging, especially for a rookie, but I think we have an extremely exciting year ahead of us. We are looking forward to competing with these major OEMs, and I am pumped to be able to put pressure on the big teams right from the start in Riyadh.”
Jay Penske, Owner of GEOX DRAGON and PENSKE AUTOSPORT, welcomed Nico to the Team, saying that “I am very excited to have Nico behind the wheel of the #7 Penske EV-4 this season. Nico is a fierce competitor, and with him, we have the pieces in place to compete with the major OEM’s in this landmark Formula E season. I look forward to very solid results in the upcoming season.”

Venturi Racing will deploy Mercedes-Benz EQ technology in Season 6. This new agreement will see the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team supply the cooling system, rear frame, rear suspension, dampers, software, onboard electronics and wiring looms – as well as the new powertrain (inverter, motor, rear axle components and energy management software), which has been designed and developed by Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains.

Venturi Racing’s test and race mileage with the new package will accelerate the learning process of the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team in its debut season, capitalising on Venturi’s experience both as the first manufacturer to commit to Formula E in 2013 and as a leader in the electric mobility arena for almost two decades through the wider Venturi Automobiles family.

Mahindra Racing already confirmed Jérôme D’Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein remain with the team for the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship. At a special event in Germany at which the race drivers were revealed alongside the M6Electro livery for season six, Mahindra Racing were also delighted to announce a new long-term technology partnership with ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

The global technology giant is supporting Mahindra Racing’s season six campaign with chassis development work, shock absorber provision and engineering services while work is already underway for the design and manufacture of the electric driveline for the 2020/21 season. In addition to the electric motor, development includes both single-gear, highly efficient transmission and the matching power electronics. This work builds on ZF’s successful and race-winning work to date in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship through its E-Mobility division, which already employs over 9,000 people worldwide since its inception in January 2016.

In line with the new partnership, the ZF branding will adorn the M6Electro cars from this season onwards. This season’s livery is an adaptation and evolution of the popular and distinctive M5Electro. It was unveiled this evening in Germany and retains the familiar red, white and blue hues that has ensured it stands out from the crowd.

Remaining with the team for a second consecutive season, Jérôme D’Ambrosio earned the team’s first podium of the 2018/19 season at the inaugural Diriyah E-Prix; the opening round of the championship. He then took his maiden win for the team at the next event in Marrakesh and was crowned a triple Formula E race-winner in only his second race for the team.

His teammate Pascal Wehrlein impressed in season five as the rookie secured a maiden Formula E podium in only his second race and took his first pole position at the next event in Mexico City. He added six Super Pole appearances and two fastest laps to his name throughout the 2018/19 campaign.

Nick Heidfeld will remain an integral part of the Mahindra Racing family and will continue in his advisory role and as the team’s official test and reserve driver. He drove the unraced M6Electro at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the competitive Hillclimb – two years after claiming the open-wheel eRecord in the M4Electro. Belgian racer Sam Dejonghe will also continue to work closely with the team in the position of reserve and sim driver.

Mahindra Racing will test the M6Electro at the all-teams pre-season test from 15-18 October at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. The first race of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship starts with a double-header at the Diriyah E-Prix on 22-23 November 2019.

Alberto Longo Co-Founder & Deputy CEO of Formula E
