Los Angeles, California – DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT  announced Joel Eriksson as the Team’s Reserve Driver for the remainder of Season 7 of the FIA Formula E World Championship.

On his appointment to the Reserve Driver role for the USA and UK-based Team, Eriksson said, “After a strong collaboration with Dragon last season, I’m more than happy and very honored to continue what we’ve started together. I will do my absolute best to help the Team as much as possible and support the drivers between races. With the motivated personnel in Silverstone and Los Angeles and the new Bosch alliance, we have the keys to achieve great results, so I’m super motivated to get back to work.”

Joel Eriksson will race in the upcoming Puebla E-Prix on the 19th and 20th of June in Puebla, Mexico. The Swedish driver will replace Nico Müller in the #6 PENSKE EV-5 due to Nico’s previous commitment in the DTM on that weekend.

On making his race debut in Formula E, Joel stated that “to race in Formula E has always been a dream since the championship started and to be given the chance finally feels kind of unreal. There’s a lot of work in front of us, but I have a great team behind me, so I know they will do all they can to make me as prepared as possible before arriving in Mexico.”

On his prospects for his first doubleheader race weekend, Joel added, “This time, it will be challenging as I only have limited mileage in this car. But, my main goal is to make the best out of it and gain as much experience as possible. I do believe that scoring points in the races is absolutely possible if I execute well. I will give it my all to achieve this goal.”

Jay Penske, Owner and Team Principal of DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT commented on Joel’s return to the Team, saying, “I am pleased to welcome Joel back to the Team. He is a valuable resource for the organization and has tremendous potential to apply his race craft to the unique demands of Formula E and deliver results for the Team on track in Puebla and behind the scenes throughout the rest of the season. I look forward to our first race together.”

Nico Müller from DRANGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT earns his first podium of the season

Nyck de Vries won the first place of the Valencia E-Prix, along his team partner Stoffel Vandoorne, who came last at third place, scoring a good points couple-double netherlander gaining for their team, Mercedes-Benz EQ.

The race went through wet conditions, with multiple caution periods, safety cars and strong pace; the engineering group, led by Jay Penske, DRAGON /PENSKE AUTOSPORT gave Nico Müller strategic support to make their way through the field, to finally achieve the second place. Nico was able to endure multiple on-track skirmishes while keeping his energy under control. The Swiss driver's careful management gave him the energy surplus necessary to overtake numerous cars over the last laps of the race, earning his first podium in the FIA Formula E World Championship.

Abou his first season's podium, Nico said: "Starting from P22, we felt we needed a combination of strategy and chao
s to make it to the front. We initially got more chaos than we wanted with a drive-thru penalty and two trips into the gravel. Fortunately, we had great pace in the wet, the car felt really good, and I managed to conserve energy while gaining places on track. That was key. In the end, we had good energy left, and my Team guided me through that race perfectly to manage our energy and be in good shape when it counted at the end."

"It is a great reward for everyone in the Team. We deserve to celebrate a podium, and I am super happy for my teammates. We know what we have to work on to be ready for tomorrow and the rest of the season, but this was a well-deserved podium. We took all the information, and made it count."
