GEOX DRAGON pleasantly just announced the appointment of Joel Eriksson to be one of the Team’s Test and Reserve Drivers for Season Six of the FIA Formula E Championship. The young Swede will also participate in the Season 6 in-season rookie test following the Marrakesh E-Prix on March 1.
Joel started his career by racing karts in his native country of Sweden at a young age, becoming Regional Champion in short order. In 2014, Joel advanced to single-seater racing, progressing to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2016, winning Rookie of the Year honors after securing ten podiums and claiming the 5th position in the Driver's Championship. The Swede continued that success by finishing Runner-Up in the Formula 3 Driver's Championship in 2017 after securing seven wins, fourteen podiums, and five pole positions. In 2018, Joel joined the highly competitive DTM Championship, where he has scored one win and three podiums to date.
Joel previously Tested at the Season 4 In-Season Rookie Test, where he finished 8th on the timesheets. "I am thrilled to get the opportunity to drive a Formula E car again, this time in the PENSKE AUTOSPORT Gen 2 race car," Joel commented. "It's a championship which is growing every day, and has a very different approach compared with other racing series, but that's why this championship and car are so interesting. I'm very excited for the Marrakesh test and the rest of the season with GEOX DRAGON."
Jay Penske, Owner of GEOX DRAGON and PENSKE AUTOSPORT, added that "it is critical to have top drivers to maximize the impact of our investments in our facilities, simulation tools, and personnel at both our LA Headquarters and Silverstone Race Shop. I am pleased with the work Joel has already done in this regard as he is both a rapid and technically effective young racer. I look forward to his test in Marrakesh, and I expect him to continue to provide valuable feedback on the development of this season's race package.”
