ICE agents shoot Mexican man in Houston

ICE agents who fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo on July 7 remain publicly unidentified one week later, a gap that Harris County DA Sean Teare called "unacceptable" and "something that does not happen." Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old Mexican national and construction worker, was shot at the 6800 block of Canal Street in Magnolia Park during a vehicle stop. The Harris County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide. The agents carried no body cameras and have since been reassigned out of Houston. Acting ICE Director David Venturella confirmed Salgado Araujo was not even the intended target of the operation. Witnesses' accounts contradict DHS's claim that he tried to run over an agent, and federal authorities have not cooperated with the DA's independent investigation.
