Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 15 November 2017: As the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) draws to a close, Dubai is all set to celebrate the people of the city that have truly championed the biggest, most ambitious fitness movement to date. Residents and visitors are in for a spectacular climax at DFC’s final Weekend Fitness Carnival taking place at Dubai Festival City on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 November. Making the most of the Carnival’s wide range of energising group and individual fitness activities and live entertainment, participants will be able to mark this commemorative milestone with their 30x30 achievements over the past month, and can look back on their journey to make a commitment to continuing an active lifestyle beyond. Involving everything from Zumba Fusion classes, Football Freestyle and ballet shows to all-day ultra-flexible yoga sessions, functional training workouts and more, the closing Carnival will showcase the very best of sporting activities from across Dubai. In addition, the main stage area will celebrate some of the most inspiring stories of the city-wide fitness movement, with both Carnival days culminating in a breath-taking water and light show and fireworks display that promises to light up the city’s skyline. Among the weekend’s many highlights will be a Guinness World Record Attempt on Friday 17 November for the most number of people attempting jump squats. World Heavyweight Champion and global sports icon Anthony Joshua will take centre stage on Saturday 18 November, leading participants through an energetic workout and encouraging participants to stay active for life. Speaking ahead of his appearance, Joshua said: “It’s been a year since my last trip to Dubai and I am excited to be coming back again to be part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. It’s a great initiative that encourages people to get active for 30 minutes daily for 30 days. I am committed to getting people moving and I’m looking forward to being part of this fitness movement! See you there!” To add to the line-up, the exciting Dragon Boat racing competition that has become a favourite fixture on Dubai’s sporting calendar, is scheduled to take place on Friday 17 November from 1pm onwards. The much anticipated event will see teams of rowers ploughing through the sparkling waters around Dubai Festival City in front of cheering spectators. Main stage highlights include:
As DFC enters its last days, everyone is encouraged to build on the incredible momentum so far and make this the first step in a true lifestyle change. Drawing inspiration from their own journeys and those of family and friends, DFC seeks to have been a trigger rather than an end goal – one that will continue to positively influence people’s commitment to a more active life. The challenge was created to motivate Dubai’s citizens, residents and visitors to boost their physical activity and commit to 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 days. Running from 20 October to 18 November 2017, the Challenge encompasses all forms of activity – from beach cricket, cycling and football, to paddle boarding, team sports, walking and yoga, and everything in between. All ages and fitness levels are encouraged to participate individually or together with friends, family and colleagues, enjoying new and exciting ways to improve their fitness levels with the ability to track their performance and their contribution to the city via the DFC app. |
