LMP1 Hybrid technical regulations to be maintained to end of 2019

While at the last round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship in Bahrain, a Strategy Committee meeting took place between representatives of the two LMP1 Hybrid manufacturers, Porsche and Toyota, the President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, Pierre Fillon, and President of the FIA Endurance Commission, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones. 

Following very constructive discussions, it has been agreed between all parties that the current LMP1 hybrid technical regulations will be maintained until the end of 2019. 

This proposal will complement the other decisions already taken on the same subject - such as limiting the number of team members, the number of aero packages permitted, and the amount of wind tunnel sessions and testing days allowed - thus promoting strong technological competition and innovation in the coming years without an unlimited escalation of expenditure. 

The commitments made by the LMP1 Hybrid manufacturers will be put before the FIA World Council meeting in two weeks for approval. 

The very constructive attitude shown by the different participants in this Strategy Committee has been extremely rewarding and is appreciated, and very much in line with the spirit of the FIA World Endurance Championship. It promises for a very strong future, and everyone is now looking forward to the epic battles which will take place between the manufacturers in 2017 and beyond.

La réglementation technique LMP1 hybride maintenue jusqu'en 2019  Alors que se courait ce week-end à Bahreïn la dernière manche du Championnat du Monde d'Endurance FIA (WEC) 2016, un Comité Stratégique s’est déroulé entre les représentants de Porsche et Toyota, les deux constructeurs LMP1 hybrides, Pierre Fillon, Président de l'Automobile Club de l'Ouest, et Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, Président de la Commission Endurance de la FIA.  A l'issue de discussions très constructives, toutes les parties se sont accordées sur le maintien jusqu’à fin 2019 de l'actuelle réglementation LMP1 hybride.  Cette proposition s'ajoute aux décisions déjà prises à ce sujet : limitation du personnel des équipes, nombre maximal autorisé de définitions aérodynamiques, de séances de soufflerie et de jours d'essais... Autant de mesures favorisant pour les prochaines années une grande compétition technologique, sans pour autant conduire à une escalade illimitée des coûts.  Cet engagement des constructeurs LMP1 hybrides sera soumis pour approbation au prochain Conseil Mondial de la FIA, prévu dans deux semaines.  L'attitude très constructive des différents intervenants de ce Comité Stratégique a été extrêmement fructueuse et appréciée, en parfaite harmonie avec l'esprit du Championnat du Monde d'Endurance de la FIA. Elle est aussi la promesse d'un brillant futur : désormais, chacun attend avec impatience les formidables batailles qui verront s'affronter les constructeurs en 2017, et les années suivantes.
